1. Name the key responsibilities in your current role
In my current role as principal I get to help create an environment that is safe and ready for kids to learn. I get to work with the people who have greatest impact on student learning, TEACHERS! I get to dialog with them about instruction and different ways that we can ensure that all students are learning and engaged in school. I get to create an environment where “Learning Matters” and students are valued.

2. Describe either your professional preparation, experience or achievements
I have been in education for 25 years. I have taught elementary, middle and high school students. My focus in the secondary classrooms were science and math. For the last 14 years I have been an administrator. I attended my undergrad at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN. I went on to do graduate work at the University of St. Mary’s where I earned my first Masters Degere in Curriculum and Instruction. I furthered my educations at the University of MN and University of Nebraska where I finished my degree in administration.

3. Describe the biggest challenge you’re currently facing in middle level education
The biggest challenge that we are currently facing in middle level education today are the outside influences that are put upon our students. Social media has changed how kids communicate and interact. We also have to focus on keeping our kids safe.

4. Share what you do for fun when not in school
I enjoy fishing and being outside. It is a great time to reflect and enjoy what nature has to offer.

5. Tell us why you are a member of AMLE
AMLE is the resource for helping young adolescents learn. It is an organization where educators can connect and find tools to use to improve their craft.
