Motivating Young Adolescents

Jack Berckemeyer is joined by Kim Campbell, classroom teacher and member of the AMLE On-Site Professional Development Cadre. Jack and Kim share ideas about student motivation and the role of the classroom teacher. They discuss practical ways to motivate the young adolescent.


  1. I really enjoyed the insight Kim gave on student motivation. I feel like sometimes we as educators can forget how important social-emotional health in the classroom is because the pressure that is often placed on standards and test scores. I found the comment you made about the students’ stress levels being high and creating the safe environment reduces those levels to be extremely eye opening.
