This We Believe:
Keys to Educating Young Adolescents

This We Believe: Keys to Educating Young AdolescentsThis We Believe: Keys to Educating Young Adolescents is the landmark position paper from the Association for Middle Level Education, formerly National Middle School Association, in which the association's vision for a successful school for 10- to 15-year-olds is delineated in 16 characteristics. The lesson learned in nearly 40 years of active middle level education is that the characteristics are interdependent and must be implemented in concert. Research and cumulative, empirical evidence have confirmed that these characteristics when present over time lead to higher levels of student achievement and overall development.

The companion book, Research & Resources In Support of This We Believe articulates the research related to the middle school concept and the 16 characteristics of successful middle grades schools.
