MIDDLE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

Middle School Leaders are critical to a school’s success. Successful middle school leaders possess a deep understanding of the middle schoolers with whom they work and the society in which they live.

Exploring Middle Level Education Leadership

A deep and unwavering commitment to the well-being of all young adolescents characterizes the middle grades principal. These exemplary leaders understand that they positively influence student achievement by fostering a safe and supportive learning climate, one characterized by high, consistent, and clear expectations for all students. To build support for long-term, continuous school improvement, they educate colleagues, parents, policymakers, and community members about early adolescence, equitable practices, and educational research.

While the successful middle school leader endeavors to give kids a true middle school experience, to do so means recognizing its place between elementary and high school.  Having that impact, though, often means middle school leaders are constant advocates for young adolescents within the district or community.
