1. Name the key responsibilities in your current role
This coming school year I will teach 7th grade math and then I will loop up to 8th grade with my students. For the past 6 years I was the middle school math department chairperson for my district. I also serve on the Middle School Review committee for my district.

2. Describe either your professional preparation, experience or achievements
I earned my bachelors of education at Central Michigan University and my masters in middle level education at Walden University. I was nominated for the Fairfax County (VA) Outstanding First Year Teacher award in 2001.

3. Describe the biggest challenge you’re currently facing in middle level education
The biggest challenge I am facing as a middle level educator is helping students understand the need for a balance between time online and time offline. Our school is 1:1 with Chromebooks and we use technology on a daily basis but it is also important for students to spend time offline both at school and at home.

4. Share what you do for fun when not in school
I love to travel and see new places. My favorite travel location is Iceland because of the breathtaking natural beauty. When not traveling I enjoy reading novels and working on my garden and flower beds.

5. Tell us why you are a member of AMLE
I am a member of AMLE because middle schoolers aren’t just big elementary students or little high schoolers–they are unique and they have different needs than other students. AMLE provides a voice for these students and resources for their teachers. I love teaching middle schoolers and I can’t imagine teaching anything else.
