April is Middle School Transitions Month

With the end of the school year in sight, it’s time to focus on the students stepping into and out of our middle school communities. That’s why AMLE is declaring April Middle School Transitions Month. These pivotal years bring big changes for young adolescents, but with the right support, your school can help them not just navigate—but thrive—through every transition.

Here are the top five highlights for this month:

  1. NEW from AMLE! Book of the Month – Successful Middle School Transitions: AMLE’s latest book is a companion tool for schools developing multidimensional transition programs designed to meet the developmental needs of 10- to 15-year olds—regardless of the school’s setting, type, or grade configuration.
  2. Middle School Transitions Toolkit: What happens when a state assembles a multi-disciplinary team to create a roadmap for schools that supports consistent, positive transitions for middle school students? Explore the Mississippi Department of Education’s robust transition toolkit, created in partnership with AMLE, Mississippi State University, and the Southern Region Education Board.
  3. Position Paper: Read AMLE’s position paper on Supporting Young Adolescents’ Transition In and Out of the Middle School, including references to relevant research.
  4. Case Studies: Enjoy case studies on the positive impact of 6th grade transition camps and looping advisories on students’ middle school transitions experience.
  5. Explore AMLE Schools of Distinction: Browse our database for examples of schools that have mastered middle school transitions to inspire your own planning.
