Join AMLE and Dr. Susan Rakow in this free webinar about improving the educational lives of advanced learners in the middle grades. We will discuss how to create curriculum and assessments, develop a continuum of services, access resources and ideas, and provide essential social-emotional support for our students' unique learning needs. Learn how your school can more effectively meet the needs of all students including high achieving and gifted learners.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Rakow taught middle school English/Language Arts, the last 20 of those in a gifted program that she developed. While at Beachwood Middle School, she also served as a team leader and an advisory coordinator, and she was instrumental in helping the school earn two Blue Ribbon Schools awards. She is currently a clinical associate professor of curriculum and instruction and the coordinator of the graduate program in gifted education at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. Her doctoral work (under the inspired guidance of Dr. Gordon Vars) identified key elements in providing a continuum of appropriate gifted services to advanced learners in the middle grades. She is the author of Educating Gifted Students in Middle School: A Practical Guide,
2nd Ed. (Prufrock Press) and Teaching to the Top
(AMLE/NMSA). Susan is a frequent presenter at state and national middle school and gifted conferences and is currently in the process of earning a license as a clinical mental health counselor.
