Dr. Crystal LaVoulle is the president of the Georgia ASCD and executive director of Read, Write, Rhyme, an educational consulting group specializing in reading skills for urban youth. As a literacy consultant, Crystal focuses on developing reading skills of under-achieving students in schools and school districts throughout the nation. Crystal has developed a professional learning course for teacher leaders and administrators titled "Lead by Example" and a workshop series for special education and general education teachers titled "The Co-Teaching Matrix." She received her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University at Stony Brook and a Master of Public Administration in Policy and Education from the University of West Georgia, and earned a doctorate in reading, language and literacy from Georgia State University. Crystal believes that learning is a lifelong endeavor and educators must continuously strive to increase their knowledge and understanding along with the students they teach. Crystal has 10 years of experience as a secondary school administrator and has worked with a diverse range of middle, high school, and post-secondary teachers and students in New York, Alabama, and Georgia. Crystal LaVoulle is an active member of the educational community, contributing to K-12 and post-secondary research and presenting at the National Title I; National Youth At-Risk; Georgia Read, Write, Now; and the Georgia Council of Teachers of English conferences.
