Advocacy

The Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE), formerly National Middle School Association, is committed to being the leading advocate for young adolescents and middle level education. Our work in Washington DC, and the development and dissemination of advocacy resources and tools, grows each year. We aim to keep the public informed about priorities and issues in middle level education and to provide resources that guide policy development.

The AMLE position paper, This We Believe: Successful Schools for Young Adolescents, is the foundational piece for setting a clear course for school improvement and reform. It focuses on implementing a school culture and practices that support the quality learning and academic achievement of every student in a developmentally appropriate way.

Month of the Young Adolescent, celebrated annually in October, is a growing and exciting initiative that helps focus attention on the importance of young adolescents and middle level schools in every community. AMLE values its work with over 100 affiliate partners and collaborating organizations in celebrating Month of the Young Adolescent and in developing a strong middle level advocacy network at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
