PDFPDF Version

(Columbus, OH) – National Middle School Association (NMSA) Executive Director Dr. Drew Allbritten announced the selection of Dr. Betty Greene-Bryant as the association's new senior director of professional services.

"Dr. Betty Greene-Bryant is an innovative, purposeful leader who brings a depth of experience to our middle level education team," said Allbritten. "She has led teams at all education levels. Betty is clearly dedicated to doing what's best by setting high expectations for schools and focusing on professional development that is successful and makes a difference for young adolescents."

Dr. Betty Greene-Bryant will facilitate the development of NMSA products and professional development events and services designed to advance middle level education. The products will include books, journal articles, research, and white papers written by students, parents, teachers, and administrators that interact with the young adolescent. Additionally, she will coordinate on-site professional development services that feature NMSA's school improvement and assessment tools and provide technical assistance to school district Race to the Top (RTTT) and 1003g grant initiatives and school improvement programs. Her professional services office also will guide NMSA's annual conference and initiate national and local partnerships with other private and public entities that value and support the success of the young adolescent and middle level education.

Betty said, "Parents send us the best children they have to educate. It is our responsibility to do our best job educating them. National Middle School Association stands ready to support all middle level education professionals who have chosen this field. Our team stands ready to serve you!"

Betty comes to NMSA from the Maryland State Department of Education where she coordinated the Maryland State Improvement Grant (MSIG), a U.S. Department of Education OSEP Professional Development Grant. Previously she has served in the roles of director and assistant director for other U.S. Department of Education grants. Betty served as the first principal in residence at the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and director for professional standards at the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and has served as a middle and high school principal for more than 10 years. Her other work in the field has been that of a college instructor in the area of school administration and teacher training at American University and Coppin State University.

Her doctorate is in education from Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and her undergraduate and master's degrees are from Howard University, Washington, DC.

We are thrilled to welcome Betty to NMSA, the premier national association for middle level education.
