AMLE Distinguished Educator Award

Launched in November 2003, this award recognizes outstanding practitioners in middle level education—those who have made a significant impact on the lives of young adolescents through leadership, vision, and advocacy.

Nominate an outstanding middle level educator for 2012!
The deadline is March 9, 2012!

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must have 10 or more years of direct instruction, influence, or involvement with middle grades students.
  • Candidate must be employed on a full-time basis in a school that provides middle grades or middle level education.
  • Candidate must be a current member of the Association for Middle Level Education.
  • Current AMLE staff, Board of Trustees, and selection committee members are not eligible for this award. Past Lounsbury Award and former Association Distinguished Award winners also are not eligible.

To Nominate a Candidate

  • Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by colleagues or members of the community. If you nominate a candidate, please notify them of their nomination.
  • Complete the Distinguished Educator Nomination Form and postmark or fax it by March 9, 2012.

Nominated Candidates

  • Upon certification of selection criteria, candidates will be mailed a Distinguished Educator Nominee Form.
  • The Nominee form contains an opportunity for the candidate to respond to a prompt in three categories, advocacy, leadership, and vision.
  • In addition, the candidate will need to include a resume and letters of recommendation from:
    • Their immediate supervisor.
    • Someone who previously or currently reports to them or from a past or current student.
    • A parent or community member.
  • The candidate should include supporting documentation not to exceed ten (10) one-sided examples.
  • Complete the Distinguished Educator Nominee Form, include additional materials, and postmark or fax it by April 29, 2012.

Selection Process

  • Nominations must be e-mailed, faxed or received by mail by March 9, 2012.
  • Candidates must submit full nominee materials by April 29, 2012.
  • A nomination will be valid for two years.
  • Recipient(s) will be notified in July 2012.

Award
The Award recipient(s) shall receive the following:

  • $1,000 cash award from the AMLE Foundation.
  • A one-year individual membership to the Association for Middle Level Education.
  • A plaque that will be presented at the NMSA/Association for Middle Level Education Annual Conference and Exhibit.
  • Complimentary registration and lodging for the NMSA/AMLE Annual Conference.
