1. Name the key responsibilities in your current role
My key responsibilities are to teach 8th grade Global Studies part time and serve as a Dean of Students working with students and their behavior. I am also the founder and coordinator of an after school program for first generation college goers called SOAR (Students On Academic Rise).

2. Describe either your professional preparation, experience or achievements
I have been a proud middle school teacher for the past 29 years. I simply LOVE the middle schooler:) I graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. My greatest achievement is being hired to teach in the great school district of Hopkins. Hopkins School District is progressive, diverse and is always learning. I am fortunate and blessed to work with amazing colleagues and students as they are truly my greatest teachers.

3. Describe the biggest challenge you're currently facing in middle level education
The biggest challenge facing middle level education is the strong emphasis on testing. With so much time and energy placed on one test students in middle school miss out on exploring their passions, experiencing a variety of essentials (electives ... I stole that from @jackberckemeyer) and simply being exposed to different opportunities.

4. Share what you do for fun when not in school
When I'm not in school I am reading, occasionally golfing and just recently tried camping. I am also an educational consultant so I do a fair amount of traveling in the summer hanging and learning from teachers all over the country. Life is good:)

5. Tell us why you are a member of AMLE
I'm a member of AMLE because it's an organization that dedicates it work and mission to all things middle school. Middle schools and middle school students are just like the middle child ... many times gets left out of the discussion, yet middle school is such an important time in the lives of our students. AMLE provides leadership, conferences, literature and most importantly, represents middle school in every arena.
